Pacific Shelf
Protecting West Coast marine ecosystems through hands-on kelp forest restoration, ghost fishing gear cleanups, and community water quality monitoring.
Guarding the California Current
The Pacific theater is anchored by the California Current—a vital cold-water conveyor system essential for marine biodiversity from Alaska down to Southern California. Our Pacific Shelf initiative focuses on tangible, field-tested conservation work: restoring declining kelp habitats, cleaning up harmful marine debris, and tracking nearshore water health alongside local volunteers and marine scientists.
Diver-Led Kelp Restoration
We partner with marine divers to clear overpopulated purple sea urchin barrens and assist in outplanting bull kelp, rebuilding vital underwater forests that act as natural carbon sinks and fish nurseries.
Ghost Net & Debris Removal
Locating and retrieving lost commercial fishing nets, traps, and heavy marine plastics from coastal waters and rocky shores to prevent wildlife entanglement and habitat damage.
Water Quality Monitoring
Empowering field teams and volunteers to conduct regular water sampling—tracking temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen to identify environmental stressors early.
Coastal Stewardship & Education
Collaborating with local coastal communities, fishing cooperatives, and educational groups to promote sustainable practices and shore protection along the Pacific rim.
Backed by 501(c)(3) standards, CCIF works alongside local volunteers and marine scientists to protect West Coast shorelines.
